  European Burmese Breed Standard

The European Burmese is a very affectionate and intelligent cat.  They thrive on companionship and will want to be with you and participate in everything you do.

They are inquisitive and playful, even as adults.  Expect them to be in your lap whenever you sit down and expect them to snuggle up next to you in bed.

European Burmese is a medium-sized cat weighing 7 to 12 pounds.  Females normally weigh less than males.  They have far eastern origins and share the same original female of the Burmese breed (Wong Mau).  During the 1940’s the British introduced a red gene and this is responsible for the different directions the two breeds took.

The European Burmese is a shorthaired cat.  The coat is silky soft and comes in an array of colors.  The coat colors have the same basic four colors of the Burmese (i.e.: sable (brown); champagne (chocolate); platinum (lilac), and blue), plus six added colors.  The added colors are due to the red gene:  red sepia; cream sepia; sable (brown) tortie; champagne (chocolate) tortie; platinum (lilac) tortie; and blue tortie.

The European Burmese body type is elegant with gently rounded contours.  They are heavier than they look with solid muscles and strong boning.  Their eyes are large, alert, and expressive.  The eyes range from yellow to amber. To be expected, with the eyes being a different shape from the Burmese, the European Burmese ear placement is also slightly different.

Like the Burmese, the European Burmese makes a wonderful family pet.  They enjoy learning tricks and are easily trained to retrieve, high-5, roll over etc.  Anything you can teach a dog, you can teach a European Burmese to do.  If you want an interactive cat, this is the cat for you.
